About the Opportunity
Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District is seeking a Staff Specialist Anaesthetist to join its Department of Anaesthesia and Pain Management at Nepean Hospital, one of NSW's leading tertiary referral centres.
The department provides services across operating theatres, ICU, Emergency Department, labour ward, acute pain, cardiac catheterisation, medical imaging and endoscopy, supporting a broad and complex clinical caseload across all major surgical subspecialties (excluding cardiac, transplant and specialised paediatrics), as well as an extensive non-theatre workload including acute and chronic pain, interventional procedures, medical imaging and perioperative care.
Consultants benefit from a well-supported and sustainable on-call structure, with two registrars (and often a fellow) providing first-line cover and 2 registrars always on site. This model significantly reduces after-hours workload and allows consultants to focus on higher-level clinical decision-making.
This is an opportunity to join a highly collaborative and well-supported department that values clinical excellence, innovation, teaching and research. Nepean Hospital has established a strong reputation in advanced surgical care, including robotic-assisted surgery, and maintains close affiliations with the University of Sydney.
The department has active subspecialty interest groups in airway, obstetric and regional anaesthesia, and is developing a leading perioperative echocardiography program, including Australia's only anaesthetic-based echocardiography fellowship. Clinicians are encouraged to pursue subspecialty interests while contributing to education, supervision, quality improvement and research activities.
The department has a strong reputation for its training and education, with excellent ANZCA exam outcomes and a structured teaching program including simulation, regional anaesthesia and exam-focused tutorials.
Nepean is actively seeking internationally accredited anaesthetists and offers comprehensive visa sponsorship, relocation and onboarding support to facilitate a smooth transition to Australia. This appointment offers the opportunity to build a long-term career within a growing health district while enjoying the lifestyle benefits of Western Sydney and the Blue Mountains.
We are seeking committed and motivated specialists who are interested in joining a supportive, vibrant Anaesthetics departmeint that offers exceptional opportunities across clinical and non-clinical areas.
