About the Organisation
The Mid North Coast Local Health District (MNCLHD) is a government funded health organisation that extending extends from Port Macquarie in the south to Coffs Harbour in the north. The MNCLHD has a workforce of 4,500 across seven hospital sites and 10 Community Health Centres, and a budget of approximately $620 million.
About the Opportunity
The District is seeking a Nurse Unit Manager Level 2 (NUM) to provide management and clinical leadership to the brand new Port Macquarie Mental Health Inpatient Unit, a 12-bed declared mental health facility with the view to expansion to 24 beds. Working within the Port Macquarie Base Hospital and Mental Health services management team, the NUM2 will be responsible for ensuring the provision of safe and efficient nursing and clinical care, while maintaining standards of care that reflect the high standards of nursing practices at MNCLHD.
The Nurse Unit Manager will;
- Lead, direct and co-ordinate patient care, at the ward / unit level.
- Ensure the practice of nursing is safe and efficient, while maintaining standards of care.
- Ensure the human, physical and financial resources of the ward / unit are managed.
- Participate in problem solving in matters related to the functioning of the unit / ward.
- Establish and maintain processes to facilitate performance improvements.
- Monitor and maintain a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors.
- Ensure and maintain knowledge and participation in business management activities.
- Practice in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia's professional standards, NSW Health Code of Conduct and CORE values.
The successful candidate will have current registration with AHPRA as a nurse and previous operational management experience within a Mental Health setting. In addition, the successful candidate will have:
- Demonstrated leadership skills, including quality improvement, conflict resolution, mediation and negotiation with an ability to motivate and inspire their team within a just and restorative perspective.
- Demonstrated ability to ensure the human, physical and financial resources of the unit / service are managed, within a defined budget, to deliver safe and efficient health care.
