In Australia, more money is spent on health and welfare (both in dollar value and in proportion to overall spending) than any other type of expenditure. From a workforce perspective, more than one million people are employed in the delivery of health and welfare services. With the inclusion of those employed across broader human services within local, state and federal government, this number increases to over three million people.
Across Australia, the Human Services sector faces a relentless pace of change, organic growth and new ownership changes. With the ever-increasing demand on health care and human services providers, organisations have had to consider how to scale their operational workforce to meet market needs.
A robust commercial offering underpinned by a robust shared services function has never been more important to organisations. Increasing workforce talent and the capability of their operating teams to deliver a contemporary and best-practice approach has been essential to meet and address changes in the sector. Across the shared services functions, systems, process and procedures have had to mature to facilitate business growth, positive financial performance and service delivery.
