Homes Tasmania exists to create opportunities for all Tasmanians to live in safe, secure, appropriate and affordable housing. At the centre of its work is a commitment to building homes, strengthening communities and improving life outcomes across the state.
Established under the Homes Tasmania Act 2022 , Homes Tasmania is an independent statutory authority responsible for providing housing and housing assistance to eligible Tasmanians, and for strategically managing and developing housing across Tasmania. The organisation plays a critical leadership role in the housing and homelessness system, working in partnership with government, community organisations, industry and the private sector.
Homes Tasmania delivers short, medium and long-term strategies to support people on very low to moderate incomes, as well as those with specialist housing needs. Its remit includes facilitating access to social and affordable housing, coordinating affordable land release, and administering the My Home shared equity ownership scheme. Evidence-based and outcomes focused, Homes Tasmania integrates policy, investment, infrastructure, property development and community services to address one of Tasmania’s most pressing social challenges.

The Board and the opportunity
Homes Tasmania is seeking to appoint two Non-Executive Directors to its Board.
Directors are independent, skills-based appointments for terms of one to three years, made on the recommendation of the Minister. The Board operates within a complex legislative and public policy environment and is responsible for strategic direction, performance oversight, risk management and strong governance to support effective operations and service delivery for the benefit of all Tasmanians.
This is a significant opportunity to contribute to a multidisciplinary organisation with statewide impact, and to support the delivery of Homes Tasmania’s housing agenda.

Skills and experience
The successful applicants will bring expertise in one of the following areas:
  • Extensive experience in residential property development and construction, including complex projects and delivery environments, or
  • Finance, investment or accounting expertise, with strong capability in financial oversight, investment decision-making and risk management.
In addition, applicants will demonstrate:
  • A deep understanding of, or the ability to contribute effectively within, a multidisciplinary environment spanning governance, finance, infrastructure, property and community services
  • Experience in public-sector or public-purpose governance environments, combined with strong commercial insight and an unwavering commitment to social impact
  • Demonstrated leadership, sound judgement and the capacity to add value to Board decision-making and positively influence Board culture
  • A strong commitment to integrity, accountability and the delivery of Homes Tasmania’s housing agenda for the benefit of all Tasmanians
  • A sound understanding of contemporary governance frameworks and decision-making processes, gained through experience on other Boards
  • Previous governance and risk management experience in complex organisations
  • Australian Institute of Company Directors membership or an equivalent governance qualification is preferred
  • Strong alignment with the values and purpose of Homes Tasmania, with empathy for people experiencing housing stress or homelessness and an understanding of contemporary best practice approaches to affordable housing and homelessness

Diversity and inclusion
In accordance with the Tasmanian Government’s Women on Boards Strategy 2020 to 2025, women are strongly encouraged to apply.
