Australians supported by the sector
Over 4,000 organisations employing over 450,000 members of our community make up Australia’s $38.7 billion aged care sector. The sector is navigating substantial growth and transformation, driven by an ageing population, evolving care requirements, changes in legislation and greater demand for care recipients to age in place.
Due to health and societal advancements, Australians are living longer, across more dispersed locations, with increasing care complexity. In a sector forecast to grow at over 10% compounded annually in the next five years, Australia’s Aged Care sector will double by the year 2030.
The last decade has been a decade of transformation for a sector still grappling with the weight of service demand, workforce scarcity, regulatory changes and financial viability.
Workforce capacity, cultural alignment and access remain the salient issue for the sector. Mandated care models with higher care acuity needs further exacerbate the need for a larger, more capable workforce within the confines of restrained funding and an evolving regulatory landscape with expanding societal expectations.
