The organisation
Our client is a long-standing professional membership body, supporting changing member cohorts across every stage of their careers. Working with branches, committees, partners and suppliers, the organisation delivers products, services and experiences that strengthen members’ skills and advocate for their interests. Representing the interests of over 17,000 members, the association operates through a small but impactful team with member-first outcomes, value, and voice at its core.
The opportunity
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the General Manager, Innovation and Member Experience will lead a multi-disciplinary portfolio focused on driving product and service innovation, delivering revenue-generating professional networking events, and overseeing standards-led continuing education. The role is pivotal to enhancing member experience, growing membership, and diversifying both member and non-member revenue streams.
This role will shape the association’s member value proposition, embed a digital-first approach to services, and forge partnerships that deliver high-value, commercially sound experiences. The General Manager will also design and implement efficient, best-practice operating models that create sustainability, drive cultural transformation, and position the organisation as a sector leader nationally and internationally.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and embed a strategic member value proposition to guide future products, services and revenue diversification.
- Oversee delivery of member-centric products and services across all career stages, ensuring commercial viability and high-impact experiences.
- Lead membership growth through insights-driven acquisition, engagement, renewal and retention; act as the point of escalation for member concerns.
- Drive innovation and a digital-first operating model that delivers cost-effective, high-value services while supporting transformation and revenue growth.
- Build portfolio capability and performance; champion change, foster transparent reporting, embed clear metrics and drive a proactive risk culture.
- Strengthen operational foundations and embed continuous improvement, innovation and commercial discipline, supported by robust reporting and evidence-based decision-making.
About you
You are an experienced senior leader with a proven track record of delivering innovative, commercially successful, digital-first products and experiences. Ideally, you bring experience of turning around declining markets, rebuilding loyalty, and winning the trust of customers through new business models. You understand how to create and commercialise value while working effectively within a not-for-profit context, balancing ambition with discipline.
You bring strategic and operational strength, stakeholder influence, and contract and business development acumen. You thrive as a change agent, leading cultural transformation with energy and vision, and you are motivated by measurable outcomes: strengthened membership, strengthened revenue, and sustainable performance. Health sector knowledge and experience in complex stakeholder environments is desirable. Relevant tertiary qualifications are well regarded.
