The organisation
The Legal Practitioners’ Liability Committee (LPLC) is an independent statutory entity providing professional indemnity insurance to Victorian barristers, solicitors and many of Australia’s national law firms, from the largest national practices to sole practitioners. LPLC’s purpose is to give peace of mind to the legal profession and the community.
Its values of integrity, respect, excellence, collaboration and forward-thinking guide its service to the profession, ensuring practical and empathetic support. LPLC works closely with the legal profession and regulators to improve the practice of law, remaining alert to emerging risks and opportunities for innovation.
Under the leadership of a new CEO and with a refreshed strategy, LPLC is restructuring key areas to strengthen prevention and claims capability.
The opportunity
Reporting to the Executive General Manager, Claims and Prevention, the Head of Prevention & Risk will lead the strategic development and delivery of an insight-driven risk awareness and mitigation program. This is a leadership role with a team of prevention specialists, requiring the ability to set clear priorities, mentor staff and build capability in a function critical to LPLC’s mission.
You will design targeted prevention initiatives based on behavioural, demographic and risk profile data, develop scalable self-service tools, deliver education through a range of learning models, and present seminars to diverse audiences.
As a visible educator and thought leader, you will bring credibility with lawyers by understanding the realities of legal practice and having the presence, expertise and communication skills to influence senior practitioners. You will leverage technology including AI, predictive analytics and automation to create innovative, data-informed programs, and measure their impact by client segment and channel.
A key part of the role is stakeholder engagement, building relationships with professional bodies, regulators, risk specialists and internal teams to ensure a coordinated, client-centred approach to prevention.
About you
You are a qualified solicitor with at least 10 years’ experience in private practice or have equivalent experience that provides deep insight into the operation of a legal practice. Whilst not required to be currently practising, you understand the pressures, risks and decision-making context in which lawyers operate.
You bring strong presentation skills, a love of teaching and learning, and the ability to design education programs that engage a diverse profession. You are an excellent communicator, capable of earning the respect of senior practitioners and presenting complex legal risk concepts in clear, practical terms.
You are highly analytical, able to interpret data to prioritise prevention activities, and you bring energy, innovation and drive to deliver meaningful outcomes. Experience in professional indemnity claims handling and or legal risk management is highly regarded.
