The opportunity
Reporting to the Director, People Operations and Analytics, and leading a team of Payroll and Compliance Officers, the Manager, Payroll and Compliance will:
  • Oversee payroll operations to ensure people are paid accurately, on time and in line with all legislation and industrial requirements
  • Strengthen governance, risk management and assurance frameworks, and maintain audit readiness across a complex workforce environment
  • Build capability within the payroll team, lift service quality and translate complex agreements and legislation into practical, workable processes
  • Drive continuous improvement, modernise systems, and lead digital and automation initiatives to enhance payroll delivery and controls
 
About you
You bring the technical depth and leadership capability to run a complex payroll function, lift standards and guide a team through meaningful improvement. The role suits someone confident working at scale, comfortable with detail, and able to influence senior stakeholders.
 
  • Strong background in payroll, compliance or workforce governance in a large, complex organisation
  • Deep knowledge of payroll legislation, taxation and superannuation, with the ability to apply this in practice
  • Confident leader who can build capability, support a team and drive improvement
  • Skilled at working with senior stakeholders and influencing decisions
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on accuracy and risk management

Desirable
  • Experience with large payroll systems such as Ascender Pay
  • Exposure to digital transformation, automation or AI in HR or payroll
  • Relevant professional membership or certification
