The opportunity
Reporting to the General Manager and as a key member of the hospital executive team, the Director of Clinical Services will lead clinical services across Calvary Lenah Valley and Calvary St John’s Hospitals.
Calvary Lenah Valley and St John’s Hospitals are asubstantial and complex private hospital operation delivering a broad range of acute services across its two campuses, including emergency care, a large maternity service and extensive surgical and medical and rehabilitation services. The Director of Clinical Services will provide executive leadership across this diverse clinical environment, with significant influence over clinical strategy, professional nursing practice, workforce performance, models of care and the continued development of hospital services.
The role holds executive accountability for the quality, safety and performance of clinical services, ensuring patients receive consistently excellent care while supporting Calvary Hobart to respond to changing community needs and opportunities for future service development.

You are an accomplished senior clinical leader with experience operating within a large acute hospital, tertiary health service or similarly complex healthcare environment.

Key responsibilities will include:
- Providing visible executive clinical leadership across both hospitals and fostering a collaborative, accountable and patient-centred culture
- Leading the quality, safety and performance of clinical services across a broad and complex acute care environment
- Oversee and management of clinical labour working within documented KPI
- Developing contemporary models of care and driving service improvement, innovation and evidence-based practice
- Building an engaged, capable and sustainable clinical workforce, with a strong focus on leadership development, performance and succession
- Maintaining effective clinical governance, risk, infection prevention and accreditation frameworks
- Working closely with executives, clinical leaders and Visiting Medical Officers to strengthen service delivery and patient outcomes
- Contributing to hospital strategy, operational planning, workforce priorities and capital investment
- Building effective relationships with regulators, healthcare partners and other external stakeholders
About you

- Current registration as a Registered Nurse with AHPRA and degree-level nursing qualifications or equivalent
- Substantial senior clinical and nursing professional leadership experience within a complex acute healthcare environment
- Demonstrated success leading large clinical workforces and building capable, engaged leadership teams
- Highly developed knowledge of clinical governance, quality, patient safety, risk and accreditation
- Experience leading service improvement, organisational change, project management and the development of contemporary models of care
- Strong operational judgement and the ability to contribute meaningfully to strategic, workforce and investment decisions
- Credibility with clinicians, Visiting Medical Officers, executives and external stakeholders
- A genuine commitment to Calvary’s mission, values and strategic direction
