The organisation
ReachOut is one of Australia’s leading digital mental health organisations, with a clear ambition: helping young people feel better. Entirely online and designed specifically for and with young people, ReachOut provides anonymous and confidential support that can be accessed on their terms, anytime and anywhere. Its services include a new AI Platform providing trusted content 24/7, triage and navigation to services in Australia, human connection including one-to-one peer support, providing evidence-informed information, stories and resources, alongside ReachOut Parents which provides coaching online to enable parents and carers to play an active role in young people’s wellbeing. With a strong focus on early intervention, ReachOut brings together evidence, lived experience, technology and human led connection to improve mental health outcomes for young people.

The opportunity
This is a pivotal executive leadership opportunity to shape the future of ReachOut’s digital mental health service ecosystem. Reporting to the CEO and leading a multidisciplinary senior team across Clinical Governance, Digital Content and Youth Involvement, Support Services and Aboriginal Social and Emotional Wellbeing, the Director will translate organisational strategy into safe, scalable and measurable services. Over the next 12–18 months, the Director will evolve ReachOut’s service model and explore how digital channels, emerging models of care and AI can responsibly extend the organisation’s reach and impact. This requires a leader who can challenge traditional approaches while exercising the judgement essential to delivering trusted services for young people.

The Director will:

Shape the future service vision – develop and embed innovative, evidence-informed digital service models that respond to the changing ways young people, parents and carers engage with, access and experience mental health support.
Lead safe, high-quality service delivery – strengthen clinical governance, quality, youth participation and culturally safe, trauma-informed and lived experience-informed practice, ensuring innovation remains grounded in safety and meaningful outcomes.
Drive digital innovation and responsible AI – partner with Product and Technology to translate emerging technology into practical, engaging and scalable improvements while balancing opportunity with ethics, clinical safety and risk.
Lead people through evolution – respect and harness the depth of professional expertise within a diverse, clinically oriented workforce while building the confidence, curiosity and capability to embrace change and new ways of working.
Lead for impact and influence – build high-performing multidisciplinary teams, drive operational performance and develop strategic partnerships across government, research, technology and mental health.

About you
You will be a credible and contemporary mental health or human services leader with a genuine connection to young people and a strong appreciation of the changing ways they seek, access and experience mental health support. Combining head, heart and leadership capability, you can move comfortably between strategy, service innovation and operational delivery. You will bring the credibility to engage and inspire a mental health and peer workforce, the contemporary thinking to shape new models of support and the personal connection to purpose needed to resonate with ReachOut’s culture and the young people it serves. You will be comfortable exploring digital platforms and AI without losing sight of quality, safety, human connection and measurable outcomes.

You will also bring:

Formal qualifications and significant experience in psychology, social work, counselling, mental health nursing or a related discipline, together with a strong understanding of contemporary mental health practice.
Senior leadership experience building, engaging and inspiring multidisciplinary teams through growth, change and service transformation.
Demonstrated capability translating evidence, lived experience, user insights and strategy into practical, scalable services that improve outcomes.
Experience in digital service innovation, with an understanding of AI, digital platforms, ethics, clinical safety and the potential for technology to improve access, engagement and impact.
Strong executive presence and the ability to influence Boards, government, partners and stakeholders across mental health and the broader human services sector.
A commitment to inclusive, culturally safe and lived experience-informed service design, including meaningful engagement with First Nations communities.
